To coincide with the start of the Oktoberfest, where OSRAM equipped the Hacker-Pschorr beer tent with energy-saving lamps, a Fall Festival based on the Oktoberfest has been created online by OSRAM in the Second Life web community.
The purpose is to attract the attention of visitors to this virtual world.

With this new Second Life initiative OSRAM is exploring new virtual territory. As part of the “One Million (Linden)Dollar Idea” competition, users can design their own lighting products.

Second Life provides a glimpse of what might be possible in the digital world of tomorrow. The internet and therefore our global communication habits will change dramatically. For a company such as OSRAM, which is committed to behaving responsibly towards people and the environment, it is absolutely essential to recognize as early as possible what will go, what will stay and what will change in terms of communication, and indeed how it will change. People will be able to communicate with each other better and faster. It will be easier for them to understand different cultures and different customs.

The “One Million (Linden)Dollar Idea” competition is designed to exploit the enormous creative potential of the inhabitants of Second Life for developing new lighting products and applications.
The declared aim is to transfer ideas generated in this way into real life and make a genuine OSRAM product. The winners will receive a reward of 1 million virtual Linden dollars.
